How to make sourdough granola bars

Here is a brief overview of how to make this recipe. For the full set of written directions, please scroll down to the recipe card below.

Step One: Mix the ingredients

In a medium bowl, stir together the sourdough discard, honey, peanut butter, and vanilla until smooth. In a large bowl, combine the oats, chocolate chips, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the discard mixture into the oat mixture and stir until everything is well coated.

Step Two: Bake

Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper and press the mixture evenly into the pan. Bake  for 25–35 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.

Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 30 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment and cut into bars.

Storage

  • Room Temperature – Once cooled, store the granola bars in an airtight container for 3–4 days.
  • Freezing – These bars freeze well. Place parchment between layers and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
